Well yeah. :)

But the reason it's like that is that so it cannot be missed by all users. The whole idea with Cyn.in is to have maximum user participation, yes? Unless we show them that the Start a discussion box, tempting them with how easy it is to actually start one, by simply starting typing and then pressing the Post button, the number of discussions you'd have (and other items as well!) would reduce drastically, methinks.

It's a good point. I can both see and like your thinking... My thoughts are along the lines of visual grouping... what is the page (the content) and what are the tools (the other stuff) ... And personally I think the buttons might be more prominent if they "floated" in greyspace at the top of the screen (expanding when creating) ... I'll do a mockup and see if I'm right.
